Second half again started with Mull getting a penalty which was missed. Mull began turning the screw with a number of quick taps which did pressurise the solid defence. From a penalty Shawlands kicked to touch, from the line out, Shawlands throwing it about in the 22 with advantage. Tony knocks on. Pulled back for the penalty it was quickly taken and Speedy was hit with a high tackle while scoring resulting in a penalty try. 22-6. By this point Mull went uncontested which allowed Mull back in. A penalty in Shawlands 5m was quickly taken with Mull scoring again unconverted. 22-11. Shawlands bounced back with Stuart again crossing over which was converted. Shawlands took the upper hand and managed on the break to get to the 5m line where it was knocked on by a Shawlands player. From the clearance another Shawlands try. Shawlands then pounced and scored again with Stewart scoring his third try of the day. Converted at 41-11. Again Mull received a penalty on the 5m which they tumbled over and converted 41-18. With the last few phases of play the ball was kicked through and Dylan O’Hare pushed through, and scored on the right. The kick was missed and the game ended 46-18.
Mull played extremely well for a team who only travelled with 14 and should hold their heads high. As for Shawlands, defence was exceptional however do need to get back 10 and be aware of quick taps. It’s great to see a number of players back from injury which looked to have strengthens areas we’ve missed!
