Cartha Sharks vs GU West match report

First half West played a very fast quick game, they were exclusively uni boys and that suited their play. The sharks for some reason were playing the same way but that lead to too many individual carries with no support and constant mistakes which kept west in the game. There was also too many passive tackles and not using their shoulders and not meeting their man and waiting for them to run at them. Angus scored a good individual try, when we played structure we scored two well worked tries. Half ended at 17-17.

During half time we spoke about playing our game and structure, use the forwards more to earn the right to go wide, and also slow down the game to let boys get set in their pods. Also to stop being so passive in defence and lack of comms to each other which lead to each other thinking that the other was making a tackle. Second half we dominated. Played the structure, talked more to each other and ended up scoring 6 tries, mainly sucking in West using the forwards and scored down the outside. The 10 Ben had a good game kicking and some great distribution from 10, but needs to stop running sideways with the ball, quicker decision making and needs to work on his tackling. The players that had a great game were Ricardo (scored a great try from just past half way), Angus (both in attack and defence) and Stefan (great in attack and defence, and also got under the oppositions
skin). Honourable mention is Kieran who played both centre and wing and was a safe bet for both, carried well, good distribution and solid in defence. Fraser Smith also played well in both attack and defence, putting us on the front foot in attack and good low tackles in defence.
