The game took place on a fine dry day with full sun spoilt only by a very strong wind blowing from the Pollokshaws side. Heriots arrived at Dumbreck as champions elect following their narrow away victory the previous week at Netherdale. The Heriots intent for the day was emphasised by the presence of a supporters bus in addition to their team bus. Post game it was revealed that the attendance figure was the highest for the season. CQP knew that this was their last chance of staying in National division 1. Anything less than victory would see CQP relegated. Looking at the two teams before the kick off suggested that Heriots would have a physical advantage and this was borne out early on by Heriots driving CQP back in the first scrum. It took Heriots only five minutes to open their account with an unconverted try which they followed up two minutes later with a second which was converted to give them a 12.-0 lead which they increased five minutes later with a converted pushover try. Before the break Heriots had gained their bonus point with two more tries to give them a thirty one point total. Just before halftime CQP opened their account with an unconverted try scored by Alec Geddes.

HT Heriots 31 CQP 5

The second half was much more even with Heriots adding three more tries. Only the third of these tries was converted when the conversion hit the bar and bounced over. CQP demonstrated considerable fighting spirit when they managed to score twice the first via a chip into the in goal area with David McCartney getting the touch and the second a lovely try when CQP broke out on the left side and veteran Tony Nyangweso did most of the work before parting with the ball to Wayne Burrows to gain a score which was converted.

Final score Cartha QP 17 Heriots 48.

At the beginning of this game it really looked as though CQP were going to be subjected to an absolute thrashing but it says a great deal for their fighting spirit to record that they were entitled to walk off the pitch with their heads held high. The second half of this season has seen CQP exposed to the problems caused by injuries, unavailability and the departure to the super six set up of two of our front row. Our priority now must be to ensure that we retain the services of ALL of our talented young players and they we successfully recruit a good coach.

Fingers crossed if we do that then we may be able to bounce right back into National 1
