Heriots v Cartha QP sept 11 2021
Arrived a little late for this game to find CQP on the attack. It took Heriots twenty nine minutes to cross CQP’s line but having found their way over they added two more converted tries before half time the third coming in the last play. All three tries were converted to give Heriots a 21-0 lead at the break.
When play resumed it took Heriots only another two minutes to increase their lead. By this stage it seemed clear that there would only be one winner in this game and the sole questions left were the margin of Heriots victory and whether CQP could get on the scoreboard. As the game progressed and legs tired Heriots were finding it easier to break through and add to their score. In the latter part of the second half CQP came more into the game but with just over ten minutes left CQP found themselves down to fourteen players when Lachie Stout was sin binned quite correctly for a no arms dangerous tackle. Now playing a man short CQP conceded three more tries in the last ten minutes to leave Heriots with a 59 nothing victory, having added six tries in the second half.
This was a difficult game to watch and one of my colleagues suggested that a one word report would suffice namely “Ouch”. This defeat on top of last weeks home defeat leaves us at the bottom of the table. A number of regular first XV players were missing from the CQP line up and it has to be hoped that they will be back for our next home game.
The mood of the very small number of supporters improved somewhat when on return to Dumbreck we discovered that our twos had recorded a convincing 40-10 victory over Marr.
