Cartha Queens Park v Biggar Sat Nov 23 2019

CQP go down to league leaders Biggar but fight to the end and gain a four try bonus point.

The match took place on a cold day with a light drizzle from time to time. Biggar came into the game having won all but one of their league games. Additionally they had won their last eight league games. As if this did not represent a big enough threat they had easily the best defensive record having only conceded 122 points in ten games. It was obvious that CQP were going to have to put up a good show if they were to get anything from this game.

Biggar opened strongly and had scored two converted tries in the first ten minutes. Four minutes later saw CQP open their account with a try by Michael Robertson which was converted by Wayne Burrows. It only took Biggar four minutes to add unconverted try number three. With just over half an hour Sam Harrison combined with Graeme Docherty on the left wing with the move starting deep in CQP’s half and ending up behind the posts with Geebs getting the touch down and the score moving to 19-14 in Biggar’s favour. Before halftime arrived Biggar had added two converted tries securing their try bonus point.

HT CQP14 BIGGAR 33.

Biggar scored again within ten minutes and pushed their total to 43. CQP were still working hard despite a few personnel changes which by the end of the game had seen all five subs used. Both Ewen Campbell and Sam Harrison had to leave the field with injuries which lead to Callum Dickson going on to the wing and Lachie Stout to move to fullback allowing new arrival Joe Ross to take over at number 9. With ten minutes of play left CQP saw the door to a try bonus open when Callum Dickson scored a third converted try. CQP now upped their game and pressed hard and were rewarded for their efforts when with a minute to go Graeme Docherty got over for his second try. This try went unconverted and the final whistle blew for a 43-26 victory to Biggar.

Both sides emerged from this game with credit. Biggar have pace and power in their armoury and look a very good bet to end up as champions in this league. CQP played with commitment throughout and worked hard for their four try bonus.

CQP next travel north to play Highland. That game should prove to be a real test as Highland like Biggar are going well and are currently in third spot
