Dundee High v Cartha QP 2November 2019.

CQP finish strongly to secure try bonus win at Dundee.

The venue for this game was switched from Mayfield to Morgan’s ground because Mayfield was waterlogged. Dundee had made a poor start to the season but in their first seven games had played all six of the club sides of the super six teams. FRENCH scrum half Bosco Lafon opened the scoring with a try which Wayne Burrows converted afternoon thirteen minutes of play. Dundee then cut CQP’s lead to four points with a successful penalty. With a quarter of the game played Wayne added a penalty conversion but Dundee levelled the score at ten apiece with halftime approaching. Just three minutes before HT Wayne kicked another successful penalty to give CQP a 13-10 HT lead. Dundee had probably enjoyed about 60 percent of possession in the first forty.

It only took Dundee two minutes to grab the lead on the resumption when a nice passing move from right to left saw them score an unconverted try in the corner. Mark Barrowman replaced Marcus Goodwin after twelve minutes and shortly after that Calum Dickson made a fine thirty metre break through the centre before being stopped about fifteen metres short but CQP retained possession and Michael Robertson got over the line to give CQP back the lead 18–15. Dundee hit back with a converted try to move the score to 22-18. The CQP pack was now clearly enjoying dominance in the set piece and from CQP pressure on the Dundee line Juan Phyfer got over for a try which Wayne converted to put CQP in front 25-22.with ten minutes left Dundee drew level courtesy of a penalty but Wayne took the lead back thanks to a successful long range penalty conversion and with time running out Tony Lopez found himself with the ball about twenty metres out from the Dundee line and got over for CQP’s bonus point try which Wayne converted to leave the full time score at 35 -25 to CQP. Overall this was a scrappy game. CQP were solid upfront but the back division did not really flow there were very few passing passages of play. Given the numerous changes of personnel in the back seven this was not really surprising. Bosco Lafon looked secure at number 9 and Sam Harrison looked as though he could cause damage if he could get more ball in hand. Apart from a couple of defensive lapses which lead to two of the Dundee tries CQP tackled well. The important thing about this game was to win it and CQP played out the full eighty minutes and achieved the required victory which pushed them up to nineteen points.

Next up Melrose at home. Once again we will be playing against a club that we have never played at first XV level. They currently sit in third spot and we look forward to welcoming them to Dumbreck.
