Cartha QP v Kirkcaldy 2nd March 2019

Cartha QP get victory and revenge against Kirkcaldy in horrible weather conditions at Dumbreck.

The weather forecast for the afternoon proved to be all too accurate which meant that we we're unlikely to see much open play. This was a game in which victory was of the utmost importance to both teams as they both started on the same points. No quarter was asked or given as each team threw everything into this contest.

Kirkcaldy opened brightly and scored an unconverted try after only a few minutes but only two minutes later from close range CQP levelled the score with an unconverted try by Juan Phyfer. CQP then took the lead through a penalty kicked by Wayne Burrows. With twenty eight on the clock Kirkcaldy scored a second try to regain the lead. The try was converted to give them a 12-8 lead. However the lead changed again after thirty five minutes when Istok Totic went over for a converted try and only two minutes later saw CQP score again when Wayne Burrows chipped the ball into the Kirkcaldy in goal area and Jacob Adamson plucked it out the air to secure a converted try which saw the score move to 20-12. Just before the break CQP scored again through Istok Totic to leave the half time score as 25-12.to CQP.

With only seven minutes of the second half played CQP increased their lead to 32-12 after some fine ball carrying by Ryan Howie with the score being credited to Calum Dickson. At this point it would have been reasonable to believe that CQP would run out winners but Kirkcaldy threw everything into it and with sixty three minutes played Kirkcaldy had scored twice moving the score to 32-26. A successful penalty conversion by Wayne Burrows eased the situation but Kirkcaldy pressed on and CQP were defending their line with everything they had. With three minutes of injury time played Kirkcaldy scored their fifth try and the score moved to 35-31 to CQP and no side was blown. This try ensured that while CQP had secured five points Kirkcaldy had secured two which over the piece they fully deserved.

Full time CQP 35 Kirkcaldy 31.

Kirkcaldy are team that likes to play through the front and the constant rain and wind present during this game suited them more than it did CQP.

Elsewhere with Dundee gaining a last minute victory and Hamilton losing at home to Kelso the league positions at the bottom of our league have altered and CQP now sit in fourth bottom spot. Next up Kelso away on the 16th March. It is to be hoped that as many CQP supporters will travel down the borders as possible. Given our away record this season if we are at near or full strength there is no reason why we can't win this match. The whole squad put in a terrific effort last Saturday they deserve our support
