CQP v Dundee HSFP Sat 29Sept 2018.

The match took place on a day which felt cold. The wind was at CQPs back in the first half and it only took the home team 3 minutes to take the lead from a penalty converted by Wayne Burrows. With fifteen minutes on the clock Dundee hit back with an unconverted try. Five minutes later CQP went down to fourteen players when Istok Totic was sinbinned. It only took Dundee a minute to capitalise on this when they scored another unconverted try. Two minutes later CQP brought the score to 8-10 with a try by Juan Phyfer which Wayne Burrows converted to level the score at ten apiece. With thirty three minutes on the clock a fine piece of back play started by the CQP scrum half, Kristian Kay, and involving Wayne Burrows saw Graeme Docherty score close to the corner flag. The try was unconverted but Wayne added three more points from a successfully penalty to give CQP an 18-10 halftime lead.

On the resumption it only took Dundee five minutes to score their third try and only five minutes later secure their try bonus with a fourth which this time was converted to push the visitors into a 22-18 lead. With sixty three minutes on the clock an incident took place on the far side of the pitch which lead to Grant Harman being red carded. With CQP now once again down to fourteen players it looked unlikely that they would be able to salvage this game and in the seventy fourth minute Dundee added a fifth try again unconverted to give a final score of 27-18 to the visitors giving them five points with CQP getting nothing.

As a consequence of unavailability and a heavy injury list the selected CQP squad showed numerous changes from the previous week's squad and unfortunately the injury list is unlikely to be reduced for next week as several CQP players had to leave the pitch with injuries. Generally the CQP tackling in this game was better than in the previous week but CQP found it very difficult to steal the ball from the Dundee hands. Overall the right team emerged successful from this contest. CQP must now get ready for a difficult trip to Jedburgh next week.

CQP seconds should have played their Dundee counterparts but this game did not take place as Dundee found themselves unable to raise a team.
