CQP beat Hamilton in
Eight try thriller with a little help from the posts.

The CQP team saw the return of Chris Wicks and Peter Hollier. James Couper and Stewart Hamilton made their first XV league debuts.

Early in the game Couper showed some impressive footwork. With only seven minutes on the clock CQP opened their account with a try by Wayne Burrows. Five minutes later CQP added a second try following a good take at the line out by Ethan Paterson. Juan Phyfer got the. touchdown. Both tries were converted by Wayne Burrows. A.couple of minutes later Hamilton had a chance to convert a penalty but chose to put the all into touch. On the eighteenth minute Hamilton created an overlap on the right which lead to a score in the corner which was unconverted to leave the score at 14-5 to CQP. Five minutes later Hamilton added three more points from a converted penalty. On the twenty-fifth minute CQP scored their best try of the game in a move started by Jonny Campion involving Wayne Burrows and Chris Wicks and ending with Ethan Paterson securing the try. Once again the try was converted by Wayne and the score moved to 21-8 in CQPs favour. Just before halftime Hamilton reduced the deficit to six points after scoring a converted try from a five yard scrum.

Half time Hamilton 15 Cartha Queen's Park 21.

Early in the second half Ewen Campbell was sinbinned. Shortly after this CQP got their bonus point when Jacob Adamson gathered the ball on the left wing and got over the line and managed to get the touchdown close to the posts. Wayne Burrows converted. CQP then made two substitutions bringing on Gregg Gilmour and Jordan Murray for Michael Nellaney and Mark Barrowman. On the sixty third minute Stewart Hamilton came on. Meantime Alex Boyle had replaced Ewen Campbell.

After some very heavy pressure which had seen CQP concede a number of penalties the referee awarded Hamilton a penalty try and the score line moved to 28-22 in CQPs favour. Almost every decision was now going Hamilton's way and with less than ten minutes left Grahame Williamson was binned and shortly after that taking full add advantage of the extra man Hamilton scored their fourth try from a driving maul. The try which had been scored close to the corner flag went unconverted. Ewen Campbell now came back on for Dave Goudie. Shortly after this Hamilton were awarded a penalty inside CQPs half about forty plus metres out and almost directly in front of the posts. McLeish the Hamilton kicker had already demonstrated that he could easily kick this distance and total silence fell on the crowd as he lined up the kick. To the relief of the CQP support the kick struck the crossbar and bounced into play to be cleared by the CQP defence. This miss seemed to inspire the fourteen players as for the rest of the game play mainly took place in midfield. Knowing that it was the last play Jonny Campion had no hesitation when he got his hands on the ball in booting it into touch.

Final Score Hamilton27(2) points CQP 28 (5 points).

There were no failures in the CQP team which certainly in the second half had to spend a great deal of time defending. There was no doubt that Hamilton dominated the second half .Not only did CQP spend almost half the second half a man down but Hamilton were bigger and heavier. Winning at Hamilton is never easy and the entire first Fifteen squad should feel proud of this result. As a consequence of this result CQP have moved up to ninth place in Nat 1.

Next up Selkirk at Dumbreck.
