Under strength CQP put in first class.defensive performance

The match was played in dry conditions. CQP were missing seven backs with the result that Andy Scott had to step in at scrum half. Throughout the first half CQP had to defend continuously repelling one Accies attack after another. With five minutes of the half left and no score on the board Milan Marinkovic was yellow carded. Shortly after this Ewen Campbell had to leave the field after sustaining damage to his fingers. It was therefore no great surprise when with thirty nine. minutes on the clock Accies got over the CQP line from close range to score their first try which was converted to give them a 7 nil lead at the break.

With only four minutes of the second half played and CQP still with only fourteen players on the park Accies scored a second converted try. Subsequently they added a third this time unconverted before after some good CQP pressure Liam Howieson went over having taken the pass at full pace. The try was converted to move the score to 19-7 As the game moved on and with legs tiring Accies got their bonus point try and with three minutes of play left they added a fifth Both tries were converted and the game ended with Accies the winners with a score of 33-7. Accies were made to work extremely hard for this victory. With so many players missing this game was always going to be very difficult for CQP given that their opponents were top of the league having lost only once away from home to Jed. In their previous outing Accies has taken 85 points from Kelso so the CQP squad should feel proud of their performance. Later in the clubhouse one of the Accies officials expressed the opinion that CQP had put in the best defensive performance he had seen from any of Accies opponents this season.CQP now finish their league programme with two home games.
