Excellent conditions at Netherdale, no wind and temp of 16C.
From a weak KO by CQP it resulted in an easy clearance by Gala to half way line. CQP knocked on and from resulting scrum for front row standing up, Gala converted a 30 metre penalty to open scoring. This was a warning to CQP that we were facing a powerful pack and an excellent place kicker in Gala No 10 Dean Keddie.
Some sound play from both sides with good tackling by CQP took place before a further penalty for offside awarded to Gala which resulted in score now Gala 6 CQP 0.

Driving play from CQP which played benefit via a well executed try by Michael Downer, converted by Wayne Burrows. Score now Gala 6 CQP 7.

From broken play Gala were awarded an offside penalty converted to make score Gala 9 CQP 7.

From subsequent kick off Matt Gray ripped ball clear only to be knocked on by CQP. Gala made some progress and a well placed kick by Gala No 10 found the Gala winger Craig Russell who scored in the corner and then converted by Gala No 10. Score now Gala 16 CQP 7.

Subsequent play resulted in a further penalty to Gala, again converted. Gala 19 CQP 7.

CQP from made progress via powerful play and a try by Milan Marinkovic unconverted. Gala 19 CQP 12. and end of 1st half.

The penalty count against CQP was concerning, and because of the number your reporter suspected a yellow card may be issued.

Virtually from the kick off CQP gave away another penalty for non release, resulting in a score now Gala 22 CQP 12.

Despite obvious complaints by CQP front row for hinging, and not square by Gala, a penalty try was awarded to Gala. Score now Gala 29 CQP 12

A further try was scored by Gala, score now 36 to 12.

CQP then made two substitutions in David Dodd and Ethan Paterson, both 2nd row. Unfortunately as a result of a tackle situation David Dodd after virtually 5 mins on the pitch and a Gala prop found themselves wrestling on the ground which resulted in both players being yellow carded.

CQP's play then became even more fragmented in their effort to gain some progress, from which Gala took advantage and scored a further try. Score now 41 to 12 to Gala.

The view of the match reporter was that despite the penalty count against CQP it was obvious that we failed to interpret the referee's requirements re release in the tackle primarily, and clearly we were unhappy about the scrum technique from a powerful well coached Gala pack. Make no doubt however Gala were by far the better team on the day
