Just before kick off the heavens opened a heavy shower fell for about ten minutes. The players who had been practising with a dry ball suddenly found themselves playing with a wet slippy ball.

In the early stages of this game unsurprisingly there were several occasions in which the ball slipped out of the receiver's hands as after a short time the ball dried off and the handling by both teams improved. It was clear that both teams were intent on playing a running game and initially play seemed to be confined to the area between the two 22's. Each team was still trying to achieve supremacy when after fifteen minutes the stalemate was broken when a through kick by Ewen Campbell saw Jake Graham race onto the ball to score on the right hand side. Wayne Burrows converted to give CQP a 7-0 lead. Only a few minutes later saw a first class CQP attack in which the ball went through about four sets of hands before being passed out to winger Jake Graham who touched down in the corner. After consulting his touch judge the referee awarded the try and once again Wayne Burrows converted successfully. Just inside the half hour mark CQP scored try number three this time courtesy of David Irvine who ran the ball in from about twenty metres. Again the try was converted by Wayne Burrows and CQP moved into a 21-0 lead. CQP who were taking every opportunity to open play out were looking very good on the ball and playing with confidence. Falkirk were also trying to play open rugby but were finding it difficult to get their hands on the ball. They were however tackling well.

HT Falkirk 0 CQP 21

Just after the restart CQP had two good chances to increase their lead but handling errors prevented a score.

After fifty minutes CQP captain Ewen Campbell was forced to leave the park after sustaining an injury in a tackle. Andrew McDougall came on as a replacement and went to scrum half with Jonny Campion going out to the wing and Tony Nyangweso moving into the centre and Graeme Docherty moving to full back. Two minutes later, however, CQP got their bonus try when they were awarded a scrum five metres from the Falkirk line on the right hand side. CQP firstly took their own ball and then steadily pushed Falkirk back over their own line where number eight Peter Hollier touched down. This was an impressive pushover try excercised carefully with CQP resisting the temptation to push too early. Once again the try was converted.

Following this CQP made a couple of substitutions with Michael Downer replacing David Irvine at prop and Callum Spriddle.
replacing Milan Marinkovic at wing forward.

In early play the forwards had seemed evenly matched but as the second half went on CQP were now completely dominent in the set piece with Falkirk really struggling to win their own put in.

With fifty eight minutes on the clock CQP scored again with a bit of fine play leading to a final pass out to Wayne Burrows who scored about ten metres out from the corner. This was followed by another CQP try this time scored with a glorious swallow dive finish between the posts by Calum Dickson. The sixth try pushed the score up to 42-0 in CQP's favour and after this Falkirk finally managed to get themselves into the CQP half. With just over ten minutes left Falkirk finally got on the board with an unconverted try by Ross Denny. The try arose after some sustained pressure about five metres out from the CQP line.

A few minutes later saw David Irvine resume this time replacing Juan Phyfer and Peter Hollier back on for Calum Dickson. Two minutes later saw Fraser Paul get through the centre of the Falkirk defence to add try seven which was once again converted. Both Jonny Campion and Graeme Docherty participated in the lead up.

Falkirk despite being heavily beaten had to their credit kept on trying and with a couple of minutes of time left scored a second try again from close range. This time the try by Calum McPherson was converted. A minute later with time almost out Jonny Campion got his name on the score sheet with try number eight. This try was created following good play by Graham Williamson and Wayne Burrows. Wayne duly rounded off a highly successful kicking afternoon by converting the scored near the corner giving him a 100% kicking success rate.

After two defeats this was a very successful result which should boost the confidence of the CQP squad. Falkirk have apparently lost a sizeable number of their first team from last year and despite being under the cosh for much of this game showed commendable team spirit. CQP will now play Stewart Melville who yesterday were heavily beaten by local rivals GHA. Hopefully CQP will be able to build on yesterday's successful performance and achieve a second league victory.

One feature of the game was the number of penalties conceded by CQP, the main reason seemed to be that the CQP attacker failed to release the ball early enough in the tackle.
