The match was played in dry conditions with a breeze blowing diagonally towards the Pollokshaws end. From the touchline it looked as though yet again CQP would be outweighed in the forwards.

With only six minutes played CQP opened the scoring with a successful penalty by stand off Darren Knox. However as the game moved on Berwick got the upper hand and it was no surprise when they scored a converted try to gain a 7-3 lead which they then increased to 12-3. Berwick were now playing with a lot of self belief and it was no surprise that they then increased their lead to 19-3. A feature of the first half was that on a number of occasions Berwick managed to rip the ball out of CQP‘s hands. CQP however managed to get into the Berwick half and a through kick into the Berwick in goal area saw Calum Dickson get to it first to get CQP’s first try. The try was not converted and Berwick entered the second half holding a deserved 19-8 lead.

Some of the CQP passing in the first half had been poor but Calum Dickson had stood out as CQP’s best attacker. Berwick remained in control and it was no surprise that they managed to score two more tries to take the score to 31-8. Whether Berwick switched off at this point or CQP switched on might be a moot point but with fifty five minutes on the clock some attractive CQP back play saw first Matthew Brown and then Scott Adamson get over the line followed up by a try for substitute Pat O’Brien gaining a bonus point try to move the score to 31-25 to Berwick. Berwick rallied and just before the final whistle scored another try which they converted to give them victory 38-25.

Over the piece Berwick deserved their win but it was pleasing to see CQP play some attractive running rugby which earned them a deserved four try bonus. CQP continue to be severely hampered by a large injury list. As a consequence the second fifteen game was cancelled which allowed the Shawlands game to be played resulting in a narrow victory for Shawlands.

Next up away to second top Glasgow Accies. Following that fixture supporters should note that it will be the postponed home fixture v Hamilton Bulls which will be played under the lights on the Friday night.
