CQPRFC's promotion to the BT National League Division 1 renews the long standing Southside of Glasgow rivalry with GHA RFC. To add a bit more spice to the matches both Club Presidents and their respective committees have agreed to sponsor a new cup for the overall winner of their league clashes. Because of his longstanding rugby history at both clubs Billy Barnes was the name that both committees unanimously proposed to name the cup and were delighted when Billy graciously accepted that proposal. The clubs have also agreed that if either club got promoted or relegated to a different league the Billy Barnes Cup would still be played for as a one off game every season to maintain its status and the rivalry enjoyed by the clubs (and of course the local "bragging rights").

The winner of the Billy Barnes Cup will be decided by the aggregate score over the two league matches. The first match of the 2017/2018 season is also the curtain raiser for the new cup.

After which the BILLY BARNES CUP will be presented to the winning team.
