Whitecraigs/ Sharks 14 GHA/ Sharks 35
It was a return to social rugby as Sharks travelled to near neighbours Whitecraigs. Due to unavailability of players and call ups to Shawlands , Sharks travelled with 7 players including debutant Sheldon Burrow. Discussion between the three clubs involved resulted in Sharks squad augmenting both the hosts and GHA and allowed a 60 mins match. Greg Wood, Mark Todd, Stewart Taylor taking the field on the GHA side and Stewart Whitelaw, Keith Telford, Frank Murphy and Sheldon Burrow taking the field on the Whitecraigs team. GHA/ Sharks run up a four try lead in the first half courtesy in part to two tries by Greg Wood. Stewart Taylor had some fine line breaks and in one he was unlucky to be stopped short of the line. Todd, Whitelaw and Burrow provided a good solid front row in their respective teams with birthday lad Keith Pender at hooker and linking up well in the loose play. Frank Murphy arrived and came in at wing forward for Whitecraigs and delivered his usual robust performance.
In the second half GHA scored another try which Whitecraigs responded with two tries. A great open game given that it’s been a while since everyone has played and played in the right social rugby spirit. It’s been a while since these social rugby tournaments were organised by the three clubs but it shows the benefit of players turning up for a game even when their squad is short and helping each other teams out. Previously games would just been cancelled because teams were short of players.
Next game at home to Glasgow Raptors on 25 Sept ko 1 pm.
